Tooth Extractions

The Unappealing Dental Extraction!

Let’s be honest, most people do not like going to the dentist, and worse than the actual visit are those frightful words that nobody wishes to hear: “You need a tooth extraction.” Images of people being tortured; pinned to a chair while teeth are being pulled from your mouth, or worse still – childhood memories of a terrible time in the dentist’s chair full of panic and fear of what might be about to happen…

The good news is – times have changed! Dentistry has moved on in leaps and bounds, and with modern medicine and specialist techniques, a trip to the dentist should be just as easy as going to the hairdresser. Having a tooth removal at the dentist is a painless procedure today thanks to the latest drugs and numbing techniques used, and your mouth (and possibly you) will be sufficiently anaesthetized throughout the whole process, so you won’t feel a thing.

Where To Get Dental Tooth Extractions

Goldfields Family Dental Clinic boasts a new and modern facility and is considered a state-of-the-art dental practice offering expert advice and all the latest technology. We offer unique services that many other dentists aren’t able to offer, such as i/v sedation (otherwise known as sleep dentistry) which allows us to treat you locally here in Kalgoorlie rather than you having to travel 7 hours to Perth for treatment. We will see toothaches and traumas on the day, and if you need dental tooth extractions, we have our own X-ray machine that can help us determine your situation. Our dentists are highly trained and extremely experienced and can offer sedation or general anaesthetics for dental extractions should you need it.

All our support staff are qualified or highly experienced and will go through what you should expect after your tooth extraction and advise you on the proper aftercare. If you have had to have a wisdom tooth removed it is likely you will have sutures in place, which may need to be removed during your follow-up visit one week later.

A Teeth Extraction Dentist that De-stresses the Process

Removing a tooth is only done if it is the best option. We’ll generally only do it if:

  • it is badly broken and cannot be repaired
  • there is too much tooth decay for a filling
  • an abscess has formed in the gum
  • wisdom teeth are impacted
  • teeth are too crowded
  • there is severe gum disease.

Although cheap tooth extraction isn’t recommended, we will make it as painless for your bank account as the removal process is for you. People worry about having a tooth extracted so we make the process as straightforward and painless as possible. We’ll ensure you are comfortable, use a local anaesthetic to numb the area around the tooth and then, once the anaesthetic has taken effect, we will gently loosen and then remove the tooth. You should not feel any pain or discomfort but, if you do, let us know and we’ll do something about it.

What Happens After Dental Extraction

You’ll be free to go home shortly after the tooth extraction procedure and can ensure the wound heals properly by:

  • avoiding the cavity when brushing your teeth, although brushing any stitches carefully to remove trapped food
  • eating only soft food at first
  • not drinking alcohol or smoking for 24 hours
  • not rinsing your mouth for 24 hours to avoid disturbing blood clots, then rinsing with salt and warm water to keep the gum clean
  • biting on a soft pad if the wound bleeds.

The missing tooth can be replaced with a titanium implant, a bridge or a denture, whichever is most suitable, so you will look and feel as good as new.

Now You Can Smile About a Trip To The Dentist

The best way to ensure you don’t have to have a tooth removal by your dentist is to look after your teeth.
