Vulnerable Goldfields residents and those struggling financially may be eligible for free urgent dental care this weekend.
Volunteer dentists and other health professionals will be on deck to help those struggling to afford dental work as part of the Kartirti Ku Free Dental Clinic.
Services will include examinations, scaling and cleaning, extractions, fillings and oral health education, with a focus on people from Indigenous and remote communities, people experiencing homelessness, and those who have concession or healthcare cards.
The clinic is being hosted by Tzu Chi International Medical Association, Heavy Metal Tooth Fairy Project, Ninga Mia Fellowship and Goldfields Family Dental.
GFD’s Alex Naylor said she jumped at the chance to donate her staff and time to such a worthy cause.
“With the cost of living increasing, it’s getting harder for people to afford a lot of things, including dental care,” she said. “We can’t give everyone free dental … but at least we can do stuff like this in the community that we’ve lived in for so long … and be able to give back.”
As well as having some staff at the clinic, Mrs Naylor said the GFD dental van would be there and she would open up rooms at her business for more serious cases if they arose.
The clinic will be hosted at the Salvation Army Kalgoorlie-Boulder Corps at 50 Oberthur Street on Saturday, Sunday and into Monday if necessary.
